October is a special month for Neighborhood Council Valley Village, as the Board and community celebrate 15 years of service to our stakeholders. NCVV was chartered in 2003 and the first election was held in 2004. The Formation Committee who shepherded Valley Village through the charter process included NCVV’s first elected President Peter Sanchez, the first elected Vice President Breice Reiner, along with community leaders Jody Hidey, Stuart Simen and Ginny Hatfield – who were all elected to the inaugural NCVV Board. Ginny Hatfield continues to serve today as NCVV’s Vice President.
Los Angeles Board of Neighborhood Commissioners (BONC) President Joy Atkinson joined other BONC members in thanking NCVV for their commitment to the City. Accepting the official proclamation on behalf of NCVV were Board members Tony Braswell, Alice Hart, Suzanne Lewis, and Lisa Miller (pictured above). “This recognition is shared by all who have served Valley Village on our Board and on working committees over the past fifteen years” said Tony Braswell, NCVV’s President, in remarks to the large audience. “This is our investment in the neighborhood – ten, twenty, thirty years from now others will benefit from the work we do today on matters such as planning, public safety, and city services.”
In his remarks Braswell expressed his appreciation to over 70 stakeholders who have served as Board members since 2004, specifically noting long time Parliamentarian and five term Board member Stuart Simen. “We accept this as we remember our good friend and colleague Stuart Simen, whose work unifying NC Bylaws helped establish the parliamentary structure that today supports all 97 Neighborhood Councils.”
NCVV’s 15th birthday will be officially celebrated at the October 25 meeting of the Board of Directors.
