NCVV Suzanne Lewis, Alice Hart and Tony Braswell with Scott SchmerelsonOn April 29, 2026 LAUSD and North Hollywood High ushered in a new era in music and theatrical arts as the school inaugurated the John Williams Performing Arts Center, a jewel in the school’s multi-year campus renovation.

The massive state-of-the-art complex will provide students with performance space for music, theater and dance. Councilman Adrin Nazarian joined other local, state and national dignitaries along with NoHo faculty and students, as Mr. Williams – an alumnus of North Hollywood High School – helped to cut the ribbon and officially open the theater.

Neighborhood Council Valley Village Board members were part of the day’s festivities as they presented the bronze marker that will be mounted outside of Kennedy Hall, recognizing the 15 Coastal Live Oaks that are now protected as City of Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument #1239. Long time Board member and North Hollywood Alumna Alice Hart presented the plaque to LAUSD Board President Scott Schmerelson. Ms. Hart and NCVV’s City Services Committee led the close to ten-year effort to obtain protection for the trees along Magnolia Boulevard.

The plaque will officially be “unveiled” once the school’s construction has been completed.
