DESCRIPTION:The Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) is proud to introduce the EmpowerLA Youth Conference\, inviting youth from each region throughout the Los Angeles City to participate in a one-day event with various workshops and presentations. The 2024 EmpowerLA Youth Conference will take place on Saturday January 27\, 2024 from 9am-4pm. \nTopics include history and purpose of the Neighborhood Council system\, Brown Act and Robert’s Rules of Order\, as well as Neighborhood Council 101s. The program will also include speeches by city officials or elected officials\, perhaps the Mayor. The program is executed in partnership with Departments such as Recreation & Parks and Sanitation. At the conclusion of the conference\, attendees will receive resources\, including a headshot photo\, to encourage their personal civic engagement and leadership in the community. \nApply by December 18\, 2023

NC members get the opportunity to learn from each other; meet their City Councilmembers and others who represent them; and connect with service providers. \nThis is the first time the Congress has been held in person since 2019! Neighborhood Council board and committee members\, as well as members of the public who are interested in community service and local issues\, are all welcome to attend. \nEVENT SCHEDULE + WORKSHOPS \nThe event takes place from 8am – 4:30pm\, but you may come and go as you please. DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, June 29th\, 2019 when the Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates host the annual Budget Day at City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles! Invitations are extended to everyone; Los Angeles stakeholders\, Neighborhood Council Board Members\, Elected Officials\, City Employees and members of the press and anyone interested in learning more about our City’s budget. \nRegistration is now open! Follow the link here: http://bit.ly/BudgetDay2019. \nOn the 29th\, registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30am in the 3rd floor rotunda. As breakfast concludes\, guests will be invited into the John Ferraro Council Chamber for discussions on the City’s Budget. Not only about the changes and initiatives driving the FY19/20 plan\, but the actual process and timeline. \nSpeakers for the day will include our Elected Officials\, Department Representatives\, and Budget Advocate leadership. As guests speakers are confirmed\, additional details will be released. \nFollowing the general session\, attendees will be invited to smaller working groups with members from their respective areas in the City to discuss their greatest concerns\, thoughts and suggestions on how their quality of life and how to improve it. \nHere\, each person will be able to share their priorities and get a better understanding of the Budget process to understand how they can influence the decisions made by our elected officials. Current members of the Budget Advocates will help facilitate the discussion and ensure everyone’s thoughts are documented so the Committee can incorporate them into their process this fiscal year. \nWhen the discussion is concluded\, elections will be held to fill vacant seats on the Budget Advocate Committee. Spring St. LA CA 90012 \nAll attendees are asked to be prepared to attend all 3 days of training. \nSign Up Here \nProgram Details \nDay One: Homelessness 101 “This section of Civic U will highlight the various sectors of homeless services including System Structure\, Policy\, Data\, Populations and Service Provision. This section will include representatives from City\, County\, Los Angeles Service Authority\, HOPE and ERT Teams and the Service provider community. These representative will give an opening presentation\, participate in question and answer and close with tangible activity recommendations for engagement in their area of service. \nDay Two: Site Visits – Section 2 will provide a firsthand engagement opportunity for participants. Attendees will visit a Permanent Supportive Housing Campus\, Coordinated Entry System and Homeless Family Service System Intake Site and a Transitional Living Facility. During this portion of the CIVIC U participants will be able to see the facilities speak with service providers and learn about the processes that move homeless persons into sustainable housing. \nDay Three: Recap and Planning “In the final section of the DOC CIVIC U the participants will recap and share\, feedback\, learning and impact of the previous days. To culminate\, each congregation represented will create an action plan to implement within their faith organization. This strategy will be designed for the capacity of the congregation\, focused on their geographic service area and based on an identified population and service model.

SUMMARY:Public Hearing: Commercial Cannabis Ordinance
DESCRIPTION:Los Angeles City Council President Herb J. Wesson\, Jr. was joined by Councilmembers Bob Blumenfield\, Paul Koretz and Nury Martinez in releasing the city’s draft regulations governing commercial cannabis activity on June 8\, 2017. The City Council is currently conducting a 60 day public comment period of the proposed requirements. \nThe Department of City Planning has prepared the proposed Commercial Cannabis Location Restriction Ordinance\, which would establish location restrictions and a limited immunity from enforcement of specified City prohibitions relating to commercial cannabis activity. In addition\, the Department has prepared an ordinance supplement with a land use review process option\, which the City Council may incorporate at its discretion. \nThe proposed ordinance has been assigned a City Planning case number of CPC-2017-2260-CA. Please reference this number when corresponding with the Department regarding this case. \nThe Department will conduct a public hearing to gather input on the proposed ordinance. This hearing has been scheduled for Thursday\, June 29\, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Los Angeles City Hall\, Room 1010.
