DESCRIPTION:Santa Monica Mountains Fund\, the official partner nonprofit at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area\, is hosting a free narrowleaf milkweed giveaway at Cottonwood Urban Farm in Panorama City! \nNarrowleaf milkweed is a gorgeous native plant that serves as a host for monarch butterflies to lay their eggs. Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on milkweed leaves. Help us restore the monarch butterfly population by picking up and caring for your own milkweed plants. \nWe will be giving away free narrowleaf milkweed at Cottonwood Urban Farm on July 20th from 9AM-12PM. All six LA Animal Centers are participating in the first Big Dog Walk for Life & Shelter Clean Up event. DESCRIPTION:The Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates are sponsoring a virtual Town Hall on the Mayor’s Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2024-2025\, which will be held on Saturday\, April 27\, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. via Zoom. \nThe Mayor is required by the City Charter to release her Proposed Budget for the next fiscal year by April 22 (extended from the 20th this year due to the weekend). The City Council must act on that Budget by the end of May. Before then\, the City Council Budget\, Finance and Innovative Committee will hold hearings with each of the City Departments and labor partners. The Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates are typically invited to make a presentation with our budget recommendations. \nThis April 27th Town Hall is an opportunity for you to get familiar with the Proposed Budget and related online resources so you are equipped to make your voice heard with the Budget\, Finance and Innovation Committee\, the City Council and the Mayor. New Council File 24-0600 has been opened and the proposed Budget and related documents will be posted there once they have been released. SUMMARY:Youth Mental Health Summit
DESCRIPTION:As a part of a recent strategy the Department of Public Health has adopted to increase opportunities for healing and social connection\, our office is planning a series of Youth Mental Summits throughout LA County. The summits are part of our initiative to provide more learning opportunities for young people to become mental health advocates. Youth attendees will learn to recognize common mental health challenges; identify and develop strategies to create a supportive network in their homes\, schools\, and communities; and participate in a community resource and activity fair with local mental health partners. Additionally\, youth will partake in mindfulness practices\, hear from county leaders\, and leave with tangible mental health guides\, workbooks\, and tools. Sessions will be facilitated by staff from DMH\, DPH\, Teenline (a program of Didi Hirsch)\, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention\, and more. Youth attendees will also each receive 5 community service hours\, a certificate of completion signed by DPH Leadership\, and a $25 gift card. \nI am excited to share that we will be holding our summit for Supervisorial District 3 youth at El Cariso Regional Community Park on Saturday April 27.
