SUMMARY:St. Baldrick's
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 30th at Fire Station 89 in North Hollywood\, your Los Angeles firefighters and police officers will join brave souls from the public and shave their heads in solidarity in order to support children who have lost their hair as a consequence of cancer treatment. \nWorldwide over 160\,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year\, and sadly it takes the lives of more children in the United States than any other illness. By raising money for shaving their heads\, shavees assist the St. Baldrick’s Foundation with offering research grants for finding a cure. This is extremely important because behind the U.S. government the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest source of funding for childhood cancer research. \nPlease join us in the festivities which include:\n– Free Pancake and Sausage Breakfast by the Pancake Factory North Hollywood!\n– Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Registration!\n– Refreshments by KENK USA\, Coffee Bean\, etc.!\n– Free Facepainting and Magic Castle Magician performances!\n– Fire and Police Apparatus displays and merchandise!\n– Much\, much more!

SUMMARY:Sepulveda Transit Corridor Community Meetings
DESCRIPTION:Take the 405 much? Tired of the traffic? \n\nPlease join us for the latest update on the Sepulveda project\, including refined concepts for the San Fernando Valley-Westside connection\, as well as initial concepts for the Westside-LAX connection. \nWednesday\, January 30\, 20196-8pmWestwood Presbyterian ChurchHoffman Hall10822 Wilshire BlLos Angeles\, CA 90024 \nSan Fernando ValleySaturday\, February 2\, 201910-12pmMarvin Braude Constituent Service Center6262 Van Nuys BlVan Nuys\, CA 91401 \nMetro is making strides to improve travel between the San Fernando Valley\, the Westside and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The natural barrier created by the Santa Monica Mountains means that most people traveling between these areas are funneled primarily onto the I-405 Freeway\, already ranked as one of the most traveled urban highways in the nation. More than 400\,000 people travel through this area every day to commute to work\, school\, and other destinations along the freeway and beyond. \nMetro is conducting a Feasibility Study (Study) to identify and evaluate a range of high-capacity rail transit alternatives between the San Fernando Valley and LAX\, including connections to existing and planned Metro bus and rail lines\, including the Orange\, Purple\, and Expo Lines. A number of alignments and station locations will be considered for the various rail alternatives. The study is expected to take approximately 20 months\, with work beginning in December 2017 and concluding in Summer/Fall 2019. Its findings will be the basis for future environmental analysis and project refinement.

SUMMARY:Homeless Count
DESCRIPTION:LOS ANGELES – Registration is now open for the 2019 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count\, which will take place January 22-24. The Los Angeles Homelessness Services Authority (LAHSA) needs more than 8\,000 volunteers to canvass more than 80 cities and 200 communities across Los Angeles County. \nThe Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is the largest homeless census count in the nation and coordinated locally by the LAHSA. Over the course of three days and nights\, thousands of trained volunteers fan out across the LA region to determine how many homeless individuals and families there are in the area\, identify their demographic characteristics and the locations where they reside. This data is essential to help LAHSA advocate for and allocate resources where they will serve the greatest needs. \nThe Homeless Count is a community-wide undertaking made possible only with the support of dedicated volunteers\, partners\, civic leaders\, law enforcement and elected officials. It is a strong demonstration of the shared mission to end homelessness in Los Angeles. By participating in the Homeless Count\, you will help the city better understand homelessness in our region and direct resources where they’re needed most. \nSign up today to volunteer at www.theycountwillyou.org.
